In casual use they're interchangeable. If there's a technical distinction: trimming usually means removing dead space from the start or end; clipping or cutting means extracting a specific span, which could be anywhere including the middle.
The exact frame where a clip begins (in point) and ends (out point). Together they define the clip's duration - everything between them is what gets exported, and everything outside them is discarded.
Lossless cutting (stream copy) works by copying compressed data directly without decoding it, which only allows cuts at keyframes - full stored frames spaced a second or more apart. Landing on any other frame requires re-encoding, which is slower but frame-exact.
A container (MP4, WebM, MOV) is the file format wrapping the data together. A codec (H.264, VP9) is how the video inside is compressed. The same container can hold different codecs, which is why "is this an MP4" doesn't fully answer "will this play."
It depends entirely on the destination. Under 60 seconds fits nearly every social platform's sweet spot. For a reference clip or documentation, length should match what the content actually needs, not a platform limit.
A highlight clip is self-contained - it delivers the full moment and makes sense on its own. A teaser is deliberately incomplete, designed to create curiosity about the full video rather than satisfy on its own.

Changing a video's aspect ratio, usually by cropping - for example converting 16:9 horizontal footage to 9:16 vertical for social platforms. It's a separate operation from cutting a clip's length and isn't something time-based clipping tools do automatically.

A timestamped link (like youtu.be/ID?t=90) opens a video already positioned at that point but keeps playing afterward. An auto-stopping embed has both a start and end time, so playback halts automatically - only possible inside an embed, not a plain share link.
With frame-accurate tools, you can mark to the millisecond and nudge by single frames, landing within roughly 33–42 ms of your intended point depending on frame rate. Lossless keyframe-based cuts are limited to the nearest keyframe instead.
